Flame Retardant Solution
Our 3M™Glass Cloth Tape 398FR is a white, glass cloth film tape with an acrylic adhesive that provides superior product performance and flame retardant properties. It features a 5.0 mil backing and a blue polyethylene film liner for ease of application. This tape is durable and has a high temperature resistance (up to 250°F/121°C). It also features good puncture resistance, high tensile strength and superior abrasion resistance. The white color ensures a clean and appealing finished product. Combined, these qualities make it is an ideal choice for use in many aerospace applications, including aircraft repair.
Recommended Applications
- Sealing thermal and acoustic insulation panels where high adhesion and flame retardancy are needed
- Aircraft window sealing, duct sealing and seat repair
- Protection of wire harnesses, electrical cables or hoses from high temperature extremes and abrasion
- Various marine applications
- General industrial and MRO applications
Superior Adhesion with Acrylic
This tape features an acrylic adhesive that adheres immediately on contact to a variety of substrates. Once bonded this adhesive will provide high, secure adhesion for extended periods. This adhesive maintains adhesion in climate and temperature change variations.
Meeting Industry Demands
3M™ Glass Cloth Tape 398FR meets flame retardancy requirements of F.A.R. Part 25.853(a) and F.A.R. Part 25.855 (d); Boeing material specification BMS 5-146 Type I, Class I, Grade A; and Airbus Specification ABS 5649. It is EU compliant per directive 2003/11 EC of the European Parliament and the Council of February 6, 2003, amending Council Directive 76/769/EEC which restricts the use of penta-BDE and octa-BDE flame retardants.
Use 3M™ Glass Cloth Tape 398FR as a flame retardant solution for many aerospace and MRO applications. Our cloth tape bonds to a variety of substrates due to its pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive. High conformability allows our tape to bond over a variety of difficult textures and uneven or curved surfaces. It has a high adhesion bond that will remain secure for extended periods of time while resisting wear and spills, and an acrylic adhesive that has excellent long ageing properties – ideal for many permanent applications.
